New York, Susquehanna & Western B40-8 4048 leads a westbound CSX Trailer Jet along with a quintet of SBD B36s at mp BG143.8 Warwick on April 23rd, 1990. Track work had been performed in the area recently due to the single-tracking project of the former double-track stretch from Warwick to Barberton. This short-sighted infrastructural improvement has created a stupefying bottleneck on this part of the CSX system.
Warwick tower is in the background. Warwick once controlled this B&O/PRR junction. The mileage between Warwick and Barberton was jointly owned and operated by B&O and PRR, later by CSX and Conrail. The CL&W line from Holloway joined the B&O main here, delivering all that coal to Lorain. The PRR line from Orrville also tied in at this location. The track that CSX removed was the PRR rail. Much talk has been spent regarding re-double tracking the portion of the New Castle Subdivision between Warwick and Barberton. All such discussions begin and end with EPA regulations, we fear.
